Submissions

Spartan Blue Tails is seeking submissions for our third publication. We are looking for flash, short stories, and poems for our 2025 Anthology with the title, The Sorrow of Infinite Beauty.

We are looking for stories about people helping others and stories of sad situations but where beauty is found within. Stories of when a human soul touches another human soul. A silver lining after the storm. An unexpected kindness, but not, not, not a random act of kindness. If you have heard the saying "no tears for the writer, no tears for the reader," then you have an idea of what we are looking for. Stories of all genres except horror and erotica will be considered.

If you are interested, please see below for information regarding submissions.

Submission Guidelines

We are looking for fiction (flash and short stories) and poems that fit with the theme of Sorrow of Infinite Beauty.

We are not defining length, although we would like the overall anthology to be about 60K words. If the piece is shorter than 1K it needs to be perfect. And longer than 3K is fine, also. Maybe up to 6K, or more if the story demands it. But no wasted scene. No bloat. No wondering around before you get to the story. Poems can be of any length.

To submit a story please send a short cover letter to Joanna Friedman with an attached word document to SpartanBluetails@gmail.com

Previously published works okay as long as you can show proof that the rights have reverted back to you. (eg. a statement on the publishers website or a letter to you confirming this).

AI generated stories will not be accepted.

Expectations, Rights, and Compensations.

Edward Campbell and I will review all submissions and make the final decision about which stories we will accept for the anthology. We will notify all writers if their story is accepted, shortlisted, or declined. The submission period will be from March 1 through May 31.

If your story is shortlisted, we will complete a critique with suggestions about what would make it a stronger submission. If you don't hear from us, it does not mean your piece is not still in the running. It means we don't have any suggestions for it at this time.
All final decisions will be sent to writers by June 30.

We will spend the summer critiquing and copyediting the stories. The writer's have the final say in accepting critique or copyedit suggestions. We will not be using a professional copy editor for the final anthology, therefor it is important that all writers who are submitting and accepted are willing to participate in this critique and copy edit exchange.

If you story is accepted, we will send you a Spartan Blue Tails LLC contract to review. We support writers and all rights revert back to the writer upon publication. A $20 payment for each piece of writing accepted will be sent to the writers via PayPal. If you do not have PayPal account we will need a physical address so we can send a check.
